New to Therapy?

Getting Started is Easier Than You Think

Feeling nervous before your first session is completely normal — and it’s exactly why we offer a free 15-minute consultation before you commit to anything.

The Process

Three simple steps

1

Free consultation

Call or text any therapist directly for a free 15-minute phone call. No forms, no pressure — just a conversation to see if it’s a good fit.

2

Book your first session

If it feels right, you schedule your first appointment. First sessions are a chance to share what’s going on — not a test, not a diagnosis.

3

Start making progress

Every session builds on the last. Most clients notice a shift within the first few weeks — not just in how they feel, but in how they handle things.

Common Questions

What people ask before they call

The first session is a conversation — your therapist will ask about what’s brought you in, your history, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. By the end, you’ll have a clearer sense of what the work will look like and whether this therapist feels like the right fit.
The free consultation is the best way to find out. Each of our therapists has a different specialty and style — Ed focuses on marriage and couples work, Jennifer specializes in EMDR and trauma, Lillian works with children and families, and Timothy focuses on teens, anxiety, and depression. If you’re not sure who to reach out to, call our main number and we’ll point you in the right direction.
It depends on what you’re working on. Some people come for a focused period of 8–12 sessions and feel ready to move on. Others find ongoing monthly sessions helpful for continued growth. Your therapist will discuss a realistic timeline with you after the first session — there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
Yes. All of our therapists offer telehealth sessions via secure video throughout California. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person for most issues, and many clients appreciate the flexibility. In-person sessions are available at our Yorba Linda office.
Children’s therapy looks different from adult therapy. Younger children often express themselves through play, art, and movement rather than words — our child therapists are trained in play therapy and other age-appropriate approaches. Parents are typically involved in the process, especially at the start, so you’ll always know how things are going.
Yes. Everything shared in therapy is confidential with three narrow exceptions required by law: if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, if child abuse or elder abuse is disclosed, or if records are subpoenaed by a court. Your therapist will explain these limits clearly in your first session. Outside of those exceptions, nothing leaves the room.
We work with PPO plans as out-of-network providers. You pay at the time of your session and we provide a detailed superbill so you can submit for reimbursement from your insurer. We do not accept HMO plans. See our Fees & Insurance page for full details.
That’s completely okay — most people feel that way before their first call. The free 15-minute consultation is zero commitment. You can ask questions, get a feel for the therapist, and decide afterward whether you’d like to move forward. There’s no obligation and no pressure.
