Heidi Dryer

My name is Heidi Dryer and I obtained my license as a Marriage and Family Therapist in 2015. I have extensive experience working with individuals from all walks of life suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, sexual abuse, women suffering with chronic pain and/or autoimmune diseases, life transitions, parenting, first generation Americans struggling with identity and cultural issues. I also have experience working with the LGBTQ community.

About Me

The most important aspect of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. I understand the importance of having an empathic ear, especially now that we find ourselves with the illusion of being “connected” with one another only to feel more disconnected than ever. We are not born being good listeners. Listening is an acquired skill. It is difficult to find someone, even in the professional world of therapy, who really listens and genuinely tries to understand the other person’s world. That is why I try my best to be present with every single person that I meet in the therapy room.

The Therapy Process

I believe in providing treatment in a holistic way so I work under the premise that all individuals have the innate ability to solve their own problems although sometimes a guiding hand is necessary to lead one in the right path in order to have a healthy and happy life. At some point in my life I worked as Flight Attendant so I often use the metaphor to describe my own personal philosophy that all human beings are travelers in this journey called life. I believe that sometimes, as travelers, we often either don’t pack enough or carry too much luggage. In the latter case, this luggage has been accumulating from all life’s experiences we’ve had since we were born. Sometimes we carry good things in our luggage. Sometimes there are too many unnecessary things that are just weighing us down. If we don’t make an effort to make a thorough inventory of all those items, our journey will be unpleasant. We know this is happening because this is when we feel stuck in life. We feel unhappy, anxious and depressed, hopeless and helpless.

Your Ability to Make Positive Change

This is when therapy can help. I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey. I am deeply invested in providing support and guidance, one person at a time, in a supportive environment free of judgment and criticism. It is important to explore the past in order to change the present so we can have a better future. This process of working with me is for those who are not afraid of exploring their past and are ready to embrace all the exciting possibilities that come from that. Are you ready for this journey?

Whether you are looking for help to improve your relationship with your significant other or your relationship with yourself, you will find my approach to be highly cooperative and dynamic. I believe in providing individualized solutions and treatment based on your individual strengths and potential for growth. Together, we will explore each part of you (body, mind and soul). I will give you ideas on how you how to integrate and balance each of them on a consistent basis. Please feel free to contact me for a free 15 minute consult.

Hobbies

I enjoy nature so I love to go on nature walks with my 12 year old going on one Beagle puppy. I enjoy exploring new restaurants with my husband. I do enjoy good food and wine. I love to travel. I also like to spend time quality time with my family and friends. I am very passionate about what I do and I love learning so I am always looking for seminars, workshops and/or conferences that I can attend. I love sharing my knowledge with my clients and loved ones.
